Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Warm-up and Lead-in

1. Daily greeting.

2. Play a song: Jingle Bells. Then ask students to guess the name of the song.

3. Free talk: Students say something about Christmas, for example, gifts in the socks, Christmas trees, and Santa Claus.

Step 2 Pre-reading

Q2: Who wrote A Christmas Carol? (The teacher will also tell some knowledge about Charles Dickens, for example, his photos, famous works, and the novel A Christmas Carol.)

3. For the third time, ask students to read the passage again and complete the following chart:

Step 4 Post-reading

Group discussion: Give students 5 minutes to make a discussion in group of five. The topic of discussion is about the spirit of Chinese traditional festivals. Students need to discuss three questions.

Q1: Which one is your favorite festival?

Q2: What is the spirit of it?

Q3: Can you tell a story to explain why we should value the spirit of this festival?

Step 5 Summary and homework

Summary: Invite one of the students to review what we have learned and encourage students to introduce the spirit of Chinese traditional festival to their families. And tell students that love makes the world a better place.

Homework: Ask students to search some meaningful stories about Chinese traditional festivals. Next class invite some students to share with us.
