Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Warming-up

1. Greetings.

2. Play a video of a terrible tornado. After that, ask two students to share their feelings, and lead in the topic.

Step 2: Pre-writing

1. Read this passage for students and ask about the aspects mentioned in the passage. Encourage students to find detail information of each aspect.

2. Show a documentary about natural disasters, and ask students to make a discussion:

Which disaster impresses you most?

What other aspects of natural disasters are mentioned in this video?

Then invite some of them to share them with us.

3. Explain the structure of exposition and collect language material..

Step 3: While-writing

Give students 15 minutes to write down their own expositions about a natural disaster and walk around to offer them help if necessary. Ask students to pay attention to grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Step 4: Post-writing

Ask students to have a peer-editing with their desk mates. 5 minutes will be given, then invite some students to share their articles and give proper evaluations.

Step 5: Summary and Homework

Summary: invite a student to summarize what we’ve learned today and give the final conclusion of this lesson.

Homework: ask students to search more information about how to escape when faced with natural disasters, and write an exposition about it. Share it with classmates in the next class.
