Step 1 Lead-in
Daily greeting.
Give students a riddle and let them guess the answer: The language in the whole world, both spoken or non-spoken, differentiates tremendously from others. However, there is one body language in common throughout the whole universe. What is it? (Smile)
(Justification: The teacher can lead the topic of “You should smile at her!” very naturally and it can also arouse students’ interest.)
Step 2 Pre-writing
List out what you are good at or not good at English(the first task on this page)
Ask students the form of the letter and write it down on the blackboard.
(Justification: Students can know their merits and drawbacks in learning English and know the form of an English letter.)
Step 3 While-writing
Give students 15 minutes to write a letter to one of their friends, who are expert in English, to help them improve their shortcomings in learning English.
(Justification: Students’ logical thinking and time management will be enhanced in this stage.)
Step 4 Post-writing
1.Peer-editing:
Ask students exchange their letters and check for each other.(grammar, punctuation and logical thinking, etc.)
2.Share
Ask some of them to share their letters in front of the class.
3.Evaluation
Give students some positive evaluation and point out some problems for them to correct.
(Justification: Students will re-examine their letters and know what they are not good at. And they will be willing to share their articles or feelings in the class.)
Step 5 Summary and homework
Summary: Invite one student to summarize what we have learned today.
Homework: Ask students to give advice to your partners and share it next class.
